Scope 1 and 2 at zero – the next step in the value chain
Between 2022 and 2025, our responsibility work progressed significantly: Scope 1 and 2 emissions have been reduced to practically zero. The most significant change began in 2022, when we switched from gas heating to district heating.
Electricity became emission-free in 2022, and heating became emission-free in 2025. The electrification of the vehicle fleet has been established as a permanent practice, and renewable diesel is used in vans. The Indutrade Group’s 2030 sustainability goals have supported our development and guided our decision-making.
“Our own operations are now carbon neutral. This is the result of determined efforts: we systematically and rapidly implemented energy solution reforms, switched to emission-free electricity, and electrified our fleet,” says Petri Mikkonen, Head of Sustainability.
Scope 3 is the biggest challenge
When your own emissions are zero, the focus shifts to Scope 3 emissions, i.e., the value chain. These consist of procurement, materials, and logistics, and are influenced by suppliers’ solutions, availability, and costs.
Approximately 95% of materials are sourced from Europe. We actively investigate the availability of recycled raw materials and are adding environmental criteria to our purchasing processes. The goal is continuous improvement and more accurate reporting.
“Scope 3 is the most challenging area overall, as it affects the entire value chain. That is why we work closely with our suppliers and develop procurement criteria in stages,” says Petri.
Our products emphasize life cycle thinking: the long service life of ball valves, maintainability, and good recyclability of metals reduce the overall impact. We are also developing carbon-neutral product solutions to meet the growing demands of our customers.
Recycling as part of everyday life
Responsibility is also evident in our daily operations. We systematically sort waste and monitor recycling. All staff have been trained in sorting practices to ensure consistent and efficient recycling in all operations.
“Recycling is not a one-off measure, but part of our operating culture. When the entire staff is trained and committed, the impact is lasting,” Petri emphasizes.
Focus on people and safety
As an industrial company, our sick leave rates are very low and there are few accidents at work. We systematically invest in occupational safety, training, and employee participation. Jouka’s own Green Team supports the development of responsibility in everyday work.
Looking ahead to 2026
Our goal is to keep Scope 1 and 2 emissions at zero and to make determined progress in reducing Scope 3 emissions in close cooperation with our suppliers. At the same time, we are developing our reporting to be even more accurate and extending it to the product level so that we can respond to our customers’ responsibility requirements transparently and reliably.
